How to Prevent Peanut Allergy?
US Researchers has developed the first preventive drug to prevent peanut allergy. And they say that people who are positive in a life-threatening peanut allergy can sooner eat peanuts again without any trouble. Can you imagine that the dosage of the drug is raised on the standard level wherein patient with serious peanut allergy even if the person just consumed half peanut or at least nine peanuts? This is what they had actually developed. This development is already a satisfying result to help and protect people who do not have much idea about eating foods containing peanut proteins.
These days peanut allergy is becoming dangerous; wherein 1.5 million of the US population are at danger of suffering such anaphylaxis which is a possible fatal reactions even to the smallest traced of the nut.
Every year, the United States is alarmed with 50-100 cases of deaths due to this allergy. The drug fights peanut allergy by connecting to a molecule, immunoglobulin E (IgE), which will allow the body to react in any allergic response. Researchers also added that this can be helpful to the patient in detecting some allergies like food allergy.
Donald Leung, of the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, Colorado says “Our results indicate that the anti-IgE antibody could become the first preventive medicine for peanut allergies. If future studies bear out this initial promise, anti-IgE could not only save lives, but help lift the cloud of fear that people with peanut allergies live under every time they eat.”
Leung group also investigated the drug known as the TNX-901. This is a natural modified antibody which mops up IgE and it can commonly activate the immune reaction by connecting to receptors on special cells known as mast cells. TNX-901 is already been tested with patients having critical peanut allergy using a placebo, or low-, medium- or high dosages of the drug that was completed in four monthly injections. The reaction to peanut flour were evaluated after2-4 weeks when the final dosage was injected and researchers found out that sensitivity of the peanuts decreased when the dosage in being increase. But, they also believed that today to prevent peanut allergy people must follow the avoidance to be much safer.
